Abstract

An integrated shape optimal design system is developed consisting of a geometric modeler, mesh generator, finite element analyzer, design sensitivity calculator and an NLP optimizer, that operate on a common database. The SADDLE design system offers a general scheme for the selection of design variables that is independent of the problem being solved and depends only on the generality of the geometric modeler. Numerical examples are presented illustrating the capabilities of the system.
