Abstract
Presentation of Case An eight-year-old girl with Hirschsprung's disease was admitted to the hospital because of recurrent abdominal pain, with abdominal distention and diarrhea. The patient was born of a full-term first pregnancy to a mother 24 years of age; the pregnancy was complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus. The child's birth weight was 3.37 kg. On the third day of life an operative procedure was performed because of intestinal volvulus. The patient's postoperative course was complicated by meningitis due to Escherichia coli, from which she gradually recovered and was discharged to her home. Thereafter she was irritable and “colicky.”.
