Abstract
“Alexander”; is the portrayal of a gay, white, American man who is concerned with gender and the boundaries between masculine and feminine. The theoretical foundations are based in materialism and psychoanalysis, and the topics covered include shopping, shoes, feet, transgendered identities, the relational other, and desire. The essay argues for a return to Lacanian principles in analyses of communication and identity.
