Abstract

In this paper, we examine the performance of adaptive FIR algorithms in the presence of bounded disturbances. In particular, we examine adaptive algorithms based on gradient MSE estimators, gradient estimators with dead-zone thresholds, and Set Membership estimators. The paper starts with a simple example of bursting phenomenon and continues by describing the algorithms and their properties. The paper also gives analytical results on the performance of these estimators and closes by proposing an algorithm that provides both MSE and instantaneous maximum amplitude error (in the limsup sense) performance guarantees.
