Abstract
The purpose of this study is to use the piezoelectric actuators and the normal ailerons in suppressing flutter and in reducing the gust response of the wing. For a control system design, LQR with output feedback is used in this study. For the aeroelastic control system design, two different configurations are considered. The first, the elastic modes are used for the feedback purpose. And the second, the self-sensing actuators are used. The RMS value of the gust response for the flexible modes and the control performance index are used as a metric to compare the control performance for gust load alleviation. Using the initial and optimized wing configurations, GLA system is designed. The control performance index and the gust response RMS are compared.
