Abstract

A comprehensive approach is given to improving the software maintenance process based on task analysis. Techniques are presented for determining maintenance tasks and their relationships. Different methods are then used to derive necessary information to perform these tasks. This information can then be placed in a database and used by tools for dissemination to software engineers to help them perform maintenance tasks. Case study results for the application of this process are described.
