Abstract

With the passing of the Urban Transport Act in 1977, it became mandatory in South Africa for metropolitan areas to carry out comprehensive urban transport planning to qualify for government funds for transport investment and subsidies. As a result, it has become necessary to develop a set of guidelines for urban transport planning within the metropolitan areas of South Africa. Describes the process that has been recommended by the National Institute for Transport and Road Research. -from Authors
