Abstract
In response to the evolving facility management (FM) industry, the Performance Based Studies Research Group at Arizona State University, General Dynamics C4 Systems, and the Greater Phoenix International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Chapter, have pooled resources to create the Facility Management Research Institute (FMRI). The fundamental purpose of the Facility Management Research Institute is to provide the needed education and research support to allow facility mangers the opportunity to be successful and add value in their changing profession. Through the integration of education and research, the FMRI seeks to benefit the facility management industry and service providers through the use of performance information and best value concepts. Several of the FMRI's initiatives include research in outsourcing and procurement, risk minimisation, organisational management, traditional facility research and the development of a master's degree in facility management at Arizona State University.
