Abstract

A low noise synchronous buck converter with a fully integrated second order single-bit continuous time σ δ modulator (CT-ΣΔM) based controller is presented. The converter is designed and fabricated on a 0.18 μm SiGe process. The feedback CT-SigmaDeltaM is sampled at 10 MHz with a single-bit non-return-to-zero (NRZ) output. Compared to a traditional PWM controller, the CT-ΣΔM controlled converter shapes the out-of-band noise and suppresses the in-band noise at the switching node by 25 dB with 92% efficiency.
