Abstract

Presentation of Case A 79-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of vomiting and weight loss. There was a history of hypertension, for which she received no treatment recently. Asthma was present for the preceding eight years and was managed with prednisone given daily in an unknown dose. She was well in other respects until 3 1/2 months before admission, when she was brought to this hospital because of a severe headache and changed mental status. The temperature was 39.2°C.
