Abstract

This paper presents a 14-GHz transformer-coupled receiver front-end with on-chip local oscillator (LO) and IF band-pass filter for satellite telecom applications. The monolithic transformer's parameters were optimized through theoretical analysis of the circuit performance (i.e., gain, noise and linearity). The system was fabricated in a 0.13-μm CMOS process. The measurements show a receiver conversion gain of 20dB and a noise figure of 7dB at 400-MHz IF frequency. The local oscillator shows a -112dBc/Hz phase noise at 1-MHz offset from a 14-GHz carrier. The IC draws 40mA total current from a 1.2-V supply.
