Description

This proposal is seeking support for the first Symposium on Industrial Ecology for Young Professionals, to be held in Tempe, AZ, May 17, 2009. The symposium is designed, organized, and participated by young professionals, including graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. In particular, the symposium is organized by the Student Chapter of International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE). The focus of this symposium is the research and application of industrial ecology (IE), a fast-growing area studying on various concerns of sustainability. The symposium, held at Arizona State University on May 17, 2009, immediately precedes the joint international conference for the IEEE International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology (ISSST '09, formally the annual International Symposium on Electronics and the Environment) and the annual International Symposium on Technology and Society (ISTAS '09) at the same location. The focus of both events are closely interacted with industrial ecology .This symposium encourages and financially supports participation by students and postdoctoral researchers. Members of groups underrepresented in IE are especially encouraged to apply for support.
