Supporting theARPA-E Power Grid OptimizationCompetition Supporting the ARPA-E Power Grid Optimization Competition I. Objective The PI will work as an outside member of the evaluation team in close coordination with the lead institution PNNL. He will participate in the activities listed for the support team in the white paper submitted to the funding agency. While the PI's work will be coordinated with PNNL, he will do some independent checking of the work of the support team. The goal is to avoid pitfalls and increase the accountability of the competition. II. Background The PI has extensive background in working with and evaluating optimization software including in competitions. The ACOPF competition will make use of generic and special purpose software. The generic software includes exactly programs that the PI has evaluated intensely and over a long period. III. Scope of Study The study done by the PI in the setup phase of the ACOPF competition will be done in the framework of the work of the support team.
