Description

RUSSIAN EMIGRATION TO CENTRAL ASIA & THE CAUCASUS RUSSIAN EMIGRATION TO CENTRAL ASIA & THE CAUCASUS We are applying for the seed grant to convene our full research team in Georgia for a workshop to collaborate on the next stage of the project. This stage will examine how local populations view the influx of Russian migrants and the potential political consequences in Kazakhstan and Georgia, both domestically and in terms of both countries international relations. Prior to the workshop, Gaukhar and a Georgian research assistant (Salome Elisashvili, with whom I have worked before) will conduct exploratory interviews on the topic, which we will draw on to develop a survey instrument; we will then work with a survey firm in Almaty and one in Tbilisi to pre-test that instrument, which we will hone during our collaborative workshop. This will provide us with preliminary results and a well-developed, ready-to-go questionnaire for a larger grant application.
