Modeling of Ultrasonic Guided Waves in Metal and Composite Materials - Phase Ia Modeling Ultrasonic Guided Wave Propagation in Complex Aerospace Structures TheobjectiveoftheresearchprojectistovalidateandverifyofthefundamentalphysicalbehaviorofthemodeloftheultrasonicguidedwavepropagationinmetalandcompositestructuresdevelopedatArizonaStateUniversity.ThephaseIawilldealwithdesignoftheV&Vplanincludingtestplananddescriptionoftestmethodology.TheV&Vshouldbedoneusingsimulationexperimentsandcomparingresultsoftheseexperimentsagainsttheoreticalassumptionsandexpectationsi.e.nolaboratoryexperimentalmeasurementsareforeseen.TheV&VplanwillbereviewedandcommentedbyHoneywellbeforethevalidationprocessstarts.OutputofthephaseIawillbepreliminaryreportonresultsofsimulationsaccordingtoV&Vplanschedule. TheobjectiveoftheresearchprojectistovalidateandverifyofthefundamentalphysicalbehaviorofthemodeloftheultrasonicguidedwavepropagationinmetalandcompositestructuresdevelopedatArizonaStateUniversity.ThephaseIbwilldealwithexecutionoftheV&Vplandesignedinthepreviousphase.ResultsoftheV&Vwillbesummarizedinthedetailedreport.UsingV&VresultsapplicabilityoftheASUmodelwillbeassessedonthetheoreticallevel.Theassessmentwillcaptureatleastcapabilitiesofthemodeltobeusedformodelingofrealmetallicandcompositestructures(riveted/bonded/weldedlapjoints,panels,beams,etc.)andcapabilitiestoaddressimpactofvariousexternalfactors(e.g.temperature,loading).Limitsofthemodelapplicabilityshouldbediscussedincorrespondingreport.
