Five LROC WAC and NAC data processing tasks are outlined with a total estimated cost of $998,980. The Resulting products will serve the lunar science and exploration communities for years to come.


The LROC Principal Investigator will ensure that the LROC Science Operations Center implements the necessary software, hardware and processing procedures to support an increase in the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) downlink, from the current funded level of 300Gbits per day up to approximately 450Gbits per day. The additional Narrow Camera Angle (NAC) images (150 Gbits per day) will be targeted in automated and manual mode. Auto-target will concentrate on filling in areas with no previous coverage and identifying repeat opportunities for geometric stereo acquisitions. The additional data will be validated and processed to the PDS EDR and CDR levels and archived with the rest of the LROC data.


The Lunar Precursor Robotic Program (LPRP) consists of a series of robotic lunar exploration missions to prepare for and to support future human exploration activities. The primary purpose of the robotic preparation is to reduce risk, enhance mission success, and reduce the cost of future human missions. The first project LPRP is chartered to develop is the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). The LRO mission objective is to conduct investigations that shall be specifically targeted to prepare for and support future human exploration of the Moon: Characterize the lunar radiation environment, biological impacts, and potential mitigation. Key aspects of this objective include determining the global radiation environment, investigating the capabilities of potential shielding materials, and validating deep space radiation prototype hardware and software. Develop a high resolution global, three-dimensional geodetic grid of the Moon and provide the topography necessary for selecting future landing sites. Assess in detail the resources and environments of the Moons polar regions. High spatial resolution assessment of the Moons surface addressing elemental composition, mineralogy, and regolith characteristics The contractor shall ensure accessibility of Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) in compliance with the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 amended section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This accessibility shall be in developing, procuring, maintaining or using EIT as required by this Statement of Work.
