Innovative Capabilities to Quantify Fatigue Damage and Assessment of Endurance Limit in Spectrum Load Histories

We propose to carry out the following four subtasks in support of the SBIR Phase I Option: 1. Provide to TDA, X-ray synchrotron tomographic 2D images obtained for 7075-T6 alloy. 2. Provide to TDA information for 7075-T6 material on inclusion size, distribution, and morphology, as well as initial general guidance on approximate grain size and orientation (before future EBSD data become available). 3. Provide to TDA the reconstructed RVE for 7075-T6 from X-ray tomography 2D slices, and meshed representative volume element (RVE) using Hypermesh or other program/techniques for Finite Element (FE) simulations. 4. Provide initial technical guidance in the development of fatigue damage criteria and modeling metrics for fatigue crack initiation from FE analysis of reconstructed RVEs.
