Description
Effects of Cannabinoids on Mitochondrial Function Undisclosed We plan to examine the effects of cannabinoids (CBs) on mitochondrial function. It is now well established that CBs can significantly moderate the effects of epilepsy, as well as Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases. However, the mode of action of CBs on these neurodegenerative diseases is not understood. There is growing evidence that neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons are connected to mitochondrial dysfunction. This proposal will test the hypothesis that the ability of CBs to moderate the effects of neurodegenerative diseases results from their interaction with mitochondrial proteins that are vital to specific processes of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS).
