CNCS AmeriCorps State Formula CNCS AmeriCorps State Formula Experience Matters (EM)programs proposes to have 34 members. Six members will serve in programs designed to reengage disconnected youth, age 16 - 24, to school and/or work. Fifteen members will serve in programs focused on tutoring and mentoring K-12 students to improve academic performance. Thirteen members will serve in programs that reduce barriers to access to healthy, nutritious food and address food insecurity. All members will serve at nonprofit, or public agencies located in Maricopa County. At the end of the first program year the members will be responsible for 67 youth reconnected to school/work, 120 K-12 students with improved academic performance, and 2000 previously food insecure individuals/households self-identifying as food secure. This program will focus on CNCS focus areas of Economic Opportunity, Education, and Healthy Futures. "Poverty reduces a child's readiness for school because it leads to poor physical health and motor skills, diminishes a child's ability to concentrate and remember information, and reduces attentiveness, curiosity, and motivation (childfund.org, 2013)". EM proposes a three-pronged approach to help alleviate these negative effects for children and young adults living in Maricopa County, AZ, by addressing: A, Food Insecurity and lack of access to healthy, nutritious food (H4A) B, Low academic performance (ED1A) C, Being disconnected from school and work (O1A) CNCS AmeriCorps State Formula - Year 2 ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation (the Center) Experience Matters (EM) (AC) State/National program proposes to have 34 members.
