Beat the Odds Leadership Academy

Project: Research project

Description

The Center for the Future of Arizona (CFA) recognizes the critical link between a strong principal and student success. Great schools require great school leaders. Leadership training is essential to improving the quality of education in Arizona. Since 2007, CFA has provided training and mentoring to more than 200 school leaders. The newly launched Beat the Odds (BTO) School Leadership Academy is the expansion of CFAs commitment to leadership development.
The BTO academy, in partnership with the National Institute for School Leadership, will provide executive leadership training to current and aspiring principals across the state. It provides three key benefits for Arizonas schools: (1) prepares school leaders to lead for excellence and equity; (2) closes student achievement gaps and creates a culture of high expectations; and (3) enhances teacher recruitment, retention, and quality.
The BTO academy is nationally researched, evidenced-based and locally delivered in a cohort model. The curriculum consists of (12) two-day units, delivered over the course of 12-15 months, supplemented with online coursework, readings, and job-embedded application of key concepts. The training will be provided by BTO academy facilitators who are proven Arizona education leaders recognized in the field. All of the BTO academy facilitators are nationally certified to deliver NISL training.
