ASU SBIRT Program Year 2 Renewal 1

Project: Research project

Description

C-3 is ASUs Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program. C-3 stands for Communication, Compassion and Connection. This is the core of SBIRT, to communicate concern, using compassion and respect, through a personal connection, and while connecting students to programs and services that can help them address their substance use.
C-3 is built on a community development model, wherein C-3 staff act as facilitators for creating a shift in internal processes within a department towards the department instituting more effective ways to screen and refer students to treatment. The foundation of C-3 lies in our focus on serving as a facilitator/ guide rather than either an authority telling departments what they should do, or waiting for department members to sign up for training in this area. Rather, C-3 staff take an active role in recruiting department leadership to work with us to bring SBIRT training to their staff, and to develop workgroups within their staff whose role it will be to integrate SBIRT into their flow-chart. C-3 staff have the role of liaison to departments to organize trainings, facilitate the workgroup, provide tools and support for successful implementation of SBIRT within their work-flow.
