Description

An Annotated Translation and Study of Yi Nunghwa (1869~1943)s A Comprehensive History of Korean Buddhism (Choson Pulgyo tongsa): Choson Dynasty and the Government General Period An Annotated Translation and Study of Yi Nunghwa (1869~1943)s A Comprehensive History of Korean Buddhism (Choson Pulgyo tongsa): Choson Dynasty and the Government General Period An Annotated Translation and Study of Yi Nunghwa (1869~1943)s A Comprehensive History of Korean Buddhism (Choson Pulgyo tongsa): Choson Dynasty and the Government General Period (Round Two) I plan to translate Yi Nunghwas (1869-1943) magnum opus, A Comprehensive History of Korean Buddhism, which consists of three parts, totaling 2,300 pages, and is written in classical Chinese. A Comprehensive History of Korean Buddhism was the first publication of a complete history of Korean Buddhism, and it is regarded as a rich repository of Buddhist sources. It is still used frequently by academics, yet studies on the book and its author, Yi Nunghwa (1869~1943) are largely neglected. I plan a partial translation of Part 1: Choson Dynasty and the Government General Period (from pages 338 to 674). This part stands as an inclusive volume of the history of Buddhism during Choson and the early colonial period.
