Description

A Water Resources Decision Support System to Reduce Drought Vulnerability and Enable Adaptation to Climate Variability and Change in Pernambuco A Water Resources Decision Support System to Reduce Drought Vulnerability and Enable Adaptation to Climate Variability and Change in Pernambuco Integrated water resources management requires the best available data on water supply, demands and management actions, as well as participatory strategies that bring stakeholders together to cooperatively produce knowledge and solutions, enhance social learning, and build technical capacity. To address these challenges, we propose to use a sustainability science approach that includes transdisciplinary knowledge production (i.e., in the fields of hydrology, visualization, and social and decision sciences) cooperatively developed with stakeholders in Pernambuco, Brazil, to ensure the products are credible, relevant to policy needs, and respective of diverse perspectives. Our project goal is to produce a decision support system and its associated scientific products in concert with local and regional partners to inform integrated water resource management with respect to drought vulnerability and adaptation strategies for climate variability and change.
